Figure of a woman with a peacock, Ugo Cipriani. On a wide, long base of marble and onyx, a figure of a crouching woman feeding a peacock. The lady is dressed in a long, wide dress and a waistcoat with large patterns, a hat with flaps on her head. The woman’s hands and face are made of bone, probably buffalo. On the left side, a figure of a peacock with a long tail with patterns in the Art Deco style.
A bronzed composition of metals, a base of marble and onyx, signed on the base: “URIANO”.
Ugo Cipriani (1887-1960) was born in Florence, the son of the sculptor Adolfo Cipriani. He was educated at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence. After completing his education, he moved to Paris, where he became a valued sculptor of the Art Deco period. He made works in marble, bronze and terracotta, most often depicting young women in sophisticated poses, often in the company of animals. He died in Paris in 1960.
