Description
A chest of drawers with a writing desk from the reign of Isabella II of Spain 1833–1868. A chest of drawers with wavy faces of drawers and front corners, with straight sides, supported on four legs, the front legs turned in the form of flattened balls, the rear ones angular. The upper drawer with a retracted front and brass guides on the sides, four drawers with wooden drawstrings inside, and a small piece of leather on the top, all covered with birch veneer. Below, four drawers alternately with a concave and rounded front, all with a steel, applied lock, the lowest one is closed by a lock located in the drawer above it. The faces of all drawers are decorated with a subtle, geometric pattern, made of delicate zinc plates and marquetry of various types of wood. In addition, three meticulously made brass sheet and mother-of-pearl applications in the form of plant twigs and rocaille patterns.
Pine construction, rosewood and birch veneers, inlays made of brass, zinc and mother-of-pearl sheets, brass, original repaired marble top.

The presented chest of drawers with a writing desk in the Isabelline style, with a massive structure and a soft form, is the Spanish “answer” to the style of Louis Philippe. A similar object can be seen in the Museo Romantico in Madrid.
