Gertrud Körner was born on July 14, 1866 in Brandenburg. She took painting lessons from famous artists, including: Franz Skarbina, co-founder of the Berlin Art Nouveau, and Ludwig Dettmann, as well as Hans von Hayek in Munich. From 1898, she taught in two student studios, one in Brandenburg on the Havel. She had her studio here at Jacobstrasse 18 until her death. She died in Berlin in 1924.
Stylistically, Körner’s works can be classified as Berlin Impressionism, and she also drew further artistic inspirations from Dachau and Hiddensee. She was a member of the Brandenburg Association of Artists and the Berlin Association of Artists. In addition to pastel drawings and oil paintings, she created numerous etchings and lithographs which, in addition to her hometown, depicted scenes from the Baltic Sea or Dachauer Moos. Between 1900 and 1923, her works were shown at numerous art exhibitions in her hometown, but also in Berlin, Munich, Breslau, Bremen, Dresden, Leipzig and Karlsruhe.
