Description

A Napoleon III-style vitrine with straight sides and a front, closed by a pair of mostly glazed doors, supported by four legs in the form of flattened spheres. One at the base, and two at the top, are decorative gilt bronze moldings around the entire perimeter. The doors also feature engraved bronze moldings around the glass and the lower panels. The sides and front are decorated with simple brass veins, and the front corners are decorated with column appliqués with laurel wreaths. The lower panels of the doors are decorated with a carved appliqué in the form of a young man’s head, set in a circular reserve, with garlands hanging from the bottom and acanthus leaves above. The right door has a recessed lock with a key, and three shelves inside.
Pine and mahogany construction, mahogany and ebony veneers, brass moldings and appliqués, late 19th century.
