Description
A Louis XV style chest of drawers, with a wavy frame line, two drawers, supported by four angular, slightly curved legs, the front ones covered with subtle bronze. Both drawers are connected by a common fitting in the form of plant tendrils, made of gilded bronze. There are a pair of large, openwork fittings on the drawer faces, and large applications in the form of acanthus leaves, also made of gilded bronze, on the front corners. The sides of the furniture are strongly curved with slanted veneer, slightly reserved. At the top there is a massive marble countertop, slightly protruding beyond the outline of the furniture. In the upper drawer there is a steel lock with a key, closing both drawers at the same time.
Oak construction, veneered with rosewood, gilded bronze fittings, original marble top, France, mid-19th century.
