Description

A Victorian cabinet with a simple structure, closed with one wing of a convex door, supported on four angular, tapered legs. The tabletop slightly protrudes beyond the outline of the furniture, decorated with a double wooden vein on the edge and a light veneer between them. Under the countertop, there is a wide, inlaid, rounded strip with patterns of flower stems and leaves. Door with an applied, signed lock and key, decorated with subtle floral patterns in an oval reserve and a double vein on the outline. Three shelves inside.
Mahogany construction, inlays made of various types of wood, England around 1900.

Furniture on the door with a Maple & Co. manufacturing plaque. The door lock is signed “T.Taylor maker W’hampton”.

Maple & Co. is a British furniture and upholstery manufacturer founded in 1841 that enjoyed particular success during the Victorian and Edwardian eras. The company became one of the main manufacturers and suppliers of furniture to the aristocracy and royalty both in the UK and around the world.
