Description
A Provençal Baroque-style chest of drawers with a curved frame and four drawers, supported by four cabriole legs. The frame contains four drawers, two smaller drawers below the top, and two larger drawers below. The drawer faces are delicately rounded, with carvings in the form of large floral leaves, interwoven with rocaille and acanthus leaf patterns. Each drawer has an openwork brass drawer pull, and the larger drawers also have a keyhole. A carved apron is present on the front and sides, while the sides themselves are straight. The top protrudes slightly beyond the furniture’s outline, and is profiled, with a decorative, carved trim around the edges. Each drawer features a steel lock.
Construction: pine, oak, and rosewood, rosewood veneers, brass fittings, carvings, Western Europe, second half of the 18th century.
